25 Ways to survive and save during the recession

1) Throw a garage sale thanks to the great site Garage Sales Tracker I was able to get rid of a lot of the junk in the house that I no longer needed, got great exposure to the site as they helped advertise the sale for me and then I just plain had fun as I made plenty of money to pay my bills while still satisfying customers.

2) Talk to people you never know what incite or inspirational advice they may have or how they may be able to help you. The best connection might have been one you never met. "To have a friend, be a friend." Randomisity

3) Ask for a discount as you never know. There is usually a hidden discount for locals that you may be able to tap into to save a few bucks every week, which in the long run most certainly adds up.

4) Act like a student. Remember those college days when you struggled to get by here and there but you found student like ways to get by? I went to the aquarium and asked if there was a student discount and sure enough there was and I saved 4 dollars. Doesn’t sound like much but between all the student discounts I’ve asked for over the past five years in and out of being a student I have saved over 300 dollars so if I asked you to state yourself as a student for 300 dollars would you?

5) Pick up loose change, I’m always called crazy when people see me picking up nickels and pennies off of the ground, but when I explain to them that if I always pick up the loose change that over the course of my life that will fully pay a necessary item such as a phone bill or car insurance for one year. So then I ask them if I asked you to pick up that change there and than you won’t have to pay your phone bill for a year would you?

6) Pack a lunch when you go to work at the office. Thanks to LL. Beans convenient lunch box you can take lunch with you to work and keep it cool the whole way there and still be stylish while saving money. LL Bean Lunch Box

9) Do charity work to past time and karma certainly will come back around. Make a Wish

10) If you are 18-22 you can fly on standby with no advanced purchase for only $79.00 each way while if I booked it that day it would have cost me $245.00. Air Tran

11) Turn off the heat and try a plug in heater the savings will be great, at local Target stores Honeywell makes a safe and convenient heater and fan that plugs right in to your electric socket. Heaters

14) Hedge your bets and put in the sweat equity because if you don’t try you never know what kind of opportunity you might miss out on. Thousands of stories of entrepreneurs that didn’t give up when everyone else just said no ended up finding their way to success and have inspirational stories to tell about it. The Big Idea

15) In tough times people realize that they have to be entrepreneurial. When it counts most you find a new way to get things done or to make money. Everybody has it inside of them some just need to be pushed to figure it out.

16) Find new uses for waste. I think of the computer company that was founded by a used car salesman in the Chicago area CDW Corporation. The story is about an auto dealer's son who started used computer sales operation in his kitchen after his $3 3-line ad in the Chicago Tribune to sell old IBM generated high demand. “Turned $300 profit on second sale. From there he founded Computer Discount Warehouse in 1984; after quitting his job as a car salesman in 1982”. This all came about when creator of the company Krasny was forced to sell his own computer for cash. Reportedly, so many people responded to his sales ad listed in the Chicago Tribune that Krasny began buying computers in order to resell them.

17) Lighten up and relax sometimes being calm and not worrying is a viable solution. As opposed to overreacting being irrational and flipping out about a situation can sometimes lead to disastrous outcomes.

18) Think 3D, by putting yourself in a situation where you look at things three dimensionally the possibilities of the world unseen and areas that have yet to be tapped can be found. Creating new sources of revenue that were never thought to be possible before. Think of Back to The Future part III when Marty McFly needed to get out of 1885 and back to 1985 but the bridge wasn’t built yet, so they had to envision that in the future the bridge would be built and the Delorean would not be heading off of a ravine.

19) Don’t try to reinvent the wheel but rather innovating the wheel is the key to the next great discovery. Steve Jobs inventor of Apple’s iPod saw the mp3 player as a valuable item but decided to innovate computer technology into the device to store more songs in user friendly settings. The device took off and the rest is history.

An old friend of mines dad used to have so many coupons that when he went to the grocery store it was as if they gave him money for shopping because he was such a sharp grocer. It certainly helps along with other coupon sites.

23) When all else fails ramen noodles prevail, possibly the best bang for the buck in a pinch try these. http://www.nissinfoods.com/

24) There are a handful of other ways that I had come up with unfortunately others have beat me to the punch with some of them and here are some links to those that may help your finances in tough times.
